Overview:

Cancer Registrar

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center is seeking a Cancer Registrar. Under general supervision, this position performs technical and analytical duties involved in the collection and reporting of cancer registry data. This position also conducts casefinding audits and quality control reviews to ensure reliability, completeness, and consistency of data as well as preparing statistical reports for management and clinical staff. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $24.00-$31.95 . The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Employment Type : Full time, 40 hrs (1.0 FTE)

Location : Remote or in Eugene, OR

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for case finding, data abstraction, reporting and follow-up of patients with a diagnosis of cancer.
  • Provides a summary of pertinent information including demographic, cancer information, stage and treatment plans utilizing all reference material through the abstraction of core data set into a specific database
  • Completes and submits abstracts to the state Cancer Registry in appropriate time frame in adherence to all quality control guidelines and policies and procedures.
  • Performs casefinding by researching patient lists from clinical systems.
  • Compiles data for research and educational purposes for administration and medical staff.
  • Maintains data request logs and copies of reports as appropriate.
  • Performs well-documented quality control, including casefinding and abstracting functions.
  • Maintains quality control logs and copies as appropriate.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual clinical resource management reports.
  • Exchanges cancer registry data in accordance with all policies and procedures, institutional, and regulatory agency requirements. Assists with community cancer control initiatives and programs.
  • Gathers surviving patient data for follow-up purposes; reports information on deceased patients as appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree in the Life Sciences preferred.
  • Minimum one to three years of experience as a cancer/tumor registrar.
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) / Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification required.
