Job Description

This Opportunity WSP is initiating a search for an Environmental Planning Consultant in Boston, MA. The Environmental Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting environmental compliance and permitting processes for various projects across California and the U.S. This position involves working closely with project managers to ensure that all environmental analyses and documentation meet the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other federal and state environmental regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed analyses of environmental issues, coordinating with a team of environmental planners, permitting specialists, and other technical specialists and experts, as well as regulatory agencies. Your Impact Environmental Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses of environmental impacts for projects in accordance with CEQA and NEPA guidelines. Prepare environmental impact reports (EIRs), environmental assessments (EAs), and other related documents. Identify potential environmental issues and propose mitigation measures to minimize adverse impacts. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act Section 404, Endangered Species Act, and other local, state, and federal laws. Coordinate with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals. Monitor ongoing projects to ensure continued compliance with environmental regulations. Project Coordination, Documentation, and Reporting: Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and execution. Provide technical support and guidance on environmental issues to project teams. Participate in project meetings and provide updates on environmental compliance status. Prepare clear and concise environmental documentation, including reports, memos, and presentations. Maintain accurate records of all environmental analyses, permits, and compliance activities. Assist in the preparation of public notices and responses to public comments on environmental documents. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3 to 5 years of experience working in the environmental planning field, completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and construction support, impact assessments, and permitting. Strong knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, and other relevant environmental regulations. Effective analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable species required. Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, notification and compliance practices, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework. Proficient interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience. Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies. Experience with discipline-specific software (i.e., ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up). Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree is preferred. Professional certifications such as AICP or similar. Experience working with GIS and other spatial analysis tools. Compensation Expected Salary: $36.93/hr- $52.78/hr WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
