Description: Adult Education English as a Second Language Teacher (part-time) Job Summary: Applicants for the Instructor position within the Adult Education program must prepare lessons for adult students whose first language may not be English (ESL). All candidates must have the ability to manage classroom students with different instructional levels. All candidates should be proficient with technology and have the ability to integrate into teaching. Position also entails working with students to gain employment and career pathways information and leading other staff. The applicant must be willing and able to work non-traditional hours in schools and/or community settings.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's or Master's degree
- Hold or be Eligible for State of DE Certification (English Second Language or any content area, elementary or secondary)
- Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated competency in classroom teaching
- Proficient in the use of technology; specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite

- Teaching students in assigned subject area(s) with an emphasis on reasoning and problem solving
- Prepares instruction and activities using the program's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors.
- Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
- Provides lesson plans for adult learners in English as a Second Language basic skills, including Civics. Instruct students individually and/or in groups using various teaching methods, and the Delaware Adult Basic Education state curricula.
- Knowledge and use of techniques appropriate for adult learners.
- Use data to monitor and manage student learning and performance.
- Complete Weekly/Monthly data collection and reports.
- Attend staff meetings and state and local sponsored professional development activities periodically.
- Refer adult learners with challenging life issues to appropriate resources.
- Work with adult students in employment facilitation and career pathways.
- Contact students with excessive absences
- Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with program's policies and practices.
