Job Description

We are hiring a Sports Manager to be responsible for organizing and managing the Region’s community sports and Unified Champion Schools programming. They will focus on directing attention, resources, and capacity to communities within their assigned geography in the Region. The Program Manager will collaborate closely with the community and staff to promote inclusive sports, recruit new athletes, Unified Partners, and volunteers, and assist Unified Champion Schools (UCS) and Local Programs in achieving organizational goals, objectives, standards, and mission in San Luis Obispo County, Santa Maria, Lompoc.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Abide by core values and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Adhere to regional and headquarters deadlines for reporting, submissions, and compliance requirements.
  • Execute the strategic plan and align regional activities with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Region’s annual community engagement plan and program budget.
  • Support organizational fundraising projects as directed.

Recruitment

  • Engage community resources like service clubs, parks & recreation departments, schools, and local businesses to support programs.
  • Promote athlete and Unified Partner participation in opportunities beyond sports, including leadership and health initiatives.
  • Assist in recruiting for Athlete Leadership Programs and Councils.

School and Community Program Integration

  • Build relationships with educational institutions, local sports organizations, and facilities serving individuals with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with the headquarters team to deliver Coaches Education opportunities.
  • Communicate with Local Programs, Unified Champion Schools, families, and volunteers to ensure compliance and successful program delivery.
  • Manage the execution of seasonal Sports Expos and health-focused events to engage participants and recruit new stakeholders.

Sports Management

  • Manage all assigned traditional and Unified Sports competitions, ensuring compliance with standards and rules.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for sporting events, including coaches and team volunteers.
  • Coordinate sports event logistics, including facilities, meals, officials, insurance, and awards.
  • Oversee athlete registration and training compliance.

Unified Champion Schools Management

  • Register, track, and monitor UCS engagement and participation data in relevant platforms.
  • Support the implementation of Unified Sports, Young Athletes, and Youth Leadership initiatives.
  • Provide training and support for UCS partners and ensure accurate implementation of program components.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Assist teammates to enhance team efficiency and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain and manage regional assets, including facilities and vehicles.
  • Participate in meetings, events, and committees as necessary.
  • Supervise volunteers and interns as required.

Job Level Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a supervisor to set and achieve goals.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in specialized areas.
  • Supervise volunteers and potentially hourly employees.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience in education, youth program development, or sports administration.
  • At least 2 years of experience in volunteer or staff management.
  • Experience collaborating with individuals with disabilities preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Flexibility, delegation, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnights.
  • Background in educational systems, community outreach, and organizational development.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • Knowledge of sports rules, regulations, and competition management.
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to pass background and DMV checks.
