Translator-Interpreter Supervisor to support assigned schools/area and other programs.
BASIC FUNCTION: Supervise the work of Translator-Interpreter activities with translation of documents, materials, and script from English into designated languages, including developing, coordinating, and overseeing Translator-Interpreters' work schedules; independently translate and type complex and technical documents; facilitate, interpret, and participate in special community outreach projects and work groups involving English Language Learners.

- Supervise the development and coordination of the daily work schedules and activities of Translator-Interpreters and other assigned staff. E
- Create work assignments and review completed work for accuracy, context, and readability. E
- Assist in the development and implementation of the District's Translator-Interpreter hiring process;select, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. E
- Effectively work with schools and departments to establish priorities, provide support for translation/interpretation efforts, resolve problems, and ensure services meet established objectives. E
- Serve on District outreach workgroups and act as a liaison between District and community groups. E
- Develop and implement approved translation/interpretation services policies and procedures and act as liaison for addressing Translator-Interpreter concerns. E
- Approve, monitor, and assess services of outside translation/interpretation agencies, and maintain records of services and charges to District. E
- Read, translate, and type text, correspondence, instructional materials, and complex and technical documents in designated language(s). E
- Type verbatim translations and type idiomatic translation considering the type of material and readers' viewpoints. E
- Review and edit translations by others to ensure quality and uniformity of typing and graphics; abstract or summarize materials. E
- Determine the most accurate shades of meaning and make corrections as needed. E
- Select, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. E
- Monitor and control the budget by determining appropriate charges and funding sources for unit services, while maintaining cost-control records and flow charts to track expenditures and timelines; maintain a variety of records. E
- Research reference materials, contact libraries, universities, and specialists to obtain the services of Translators/Interpreters in designated languages. E
- Plan and conduct meetings, professional development, and in-service activities for assigned staff. E
- Create content for, maintain, and update department webpage. E
- Provide simultaneous interpretation using one or more designated languages for schools, community, and District functions. E
- Identify material and/or equipment needs of the department and prepare requisitions to obtain items as appropriate. E
- Supervise timekeeping process. E
- Set up and use headphones, microphones, and other equipment during oral interpretations at meetings, as necessary. E
- May provide internship opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in English, a foreign language, or related field and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in translating written documents with accuracy and speed and providing oral translations, preferably in a school environment. Including, experience supervising, evaluating, scheduling, overseeing timekeeping, budget control, and contracting with outside agencies or grants.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided.)
- Typing/keyboarding certificate at a net corrected speed of 25 words per minute.
- High level proficiency of English vocabulary and that of the designated language equivalent to a person who has received college level education in the designated language country, including ability to express thought between languages that is structurally, grammatically, and idiomatically correct.
NOTE: Bilingual skills and abilities are an integral part of this job class. Incumbents do not qualify for the bilingual differential.
